Thibault Forget earns Player of the Week honors

first_imgSophomore Thibault Forget picked up his first Pac-12 Player of the Week award this week after stellar play at the BNP Paribas Open Collegiate Challenge, held last week at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden. In two 4-1 USC victories over top-25 teams — Oklahoma and Baylor — Forget won his first match 6-2, 6-1 over Oklahoma’s top-100 player Max Mora, following it up the next day with a  6-1, 6-1 victory over Baylor’s Jimmy Bendeck. In addition to this week, Forget has had a great season, currently on a 10-match winning streak, a key component of the Trojans’ recent three-match win streak, propelling them to a 10-3 record and top-15 ranking. Forget was the third player for USC to reach the 20-win club on the season, which will likely help increase his ranking past his current spot of 91 in the country. The award shows the depth of this year’s team, as Forget is the third player to claim the award, following senior Max de Vroome’s win last week and junior Nick Crystal’s win in January.Forget is no stranger to tennis success, as his father Guy Forget reached two French Open finals in doubles and three Wimbledon quarterfinals in singles in the late 1980s and the 1990s. As a key contributor his sophomore year, Forget has a lot to look forward to as he gains experience throughout the next couple of seasons.Forget and the Trojans travel north this weekend to try and remain hot as they begin Pac-12 play against Washington and Oregon before returning home to Marks Stadium to face the Cal Golden Bears on April 1.last_img
