By Rachel Jones STAFF WRITER Volunteers with Little Sisters of the Poor are holding their annual holiday boutique today, with proceeds going toward their home for the elderly in need. Though the boutique has changed from a two-day event to just one day, organizers are confident that it will still be a success. There’s a long line at 10a.m. to get in.” Bolivar said the boutique usually brings in close to $50,000 with the sales of donated items. Each month the Sisters have a rummage sale with donations from the community, and they take the more valuable items to save for the boutique. “There’s crystal and silver china and some really nice stuff,” Bolivar said. There are also handmade items crafted by volunteers or Little Sisters residents. There will also be a raffle at the boutique, and those who buy the $1 tickets will have a chance to win $1,500 cash, a 20-inch flat-screen television or a $200 gift certificate to Henry’s Farmers Market. This year the group is revamping the format that the boutique has had for the past 10 or 15 years, reducing it to one day and adding an Italian dinner. “Sunday was always kind of slow, so we decided to cut the days,” Bolivar explained. The spaghetti meal will be served throughout the day. In addition to the boutique and monthly rummage sales, the Little Sisters have several other fundraisers throughout the year, such as a dinner-dance in June that raised $260,000. “We survive on donations,” Bolivar said.
