Storm Kills Five in Kokoya

first_imgAt least five persons were reportedly killed as the result of a windstorm on Tuesday March 15, in Kokoya Statutory District in Bong County.According to reports from the area, more than 70 houses were destroyed leaving several persons homeless.The victims included two deaths in David Dean Town known as Gold Camp and Sayewehn Town in Boisen Administrative District.In Dolo Town more than 20 houses were destroyed, while in Kpai Town, about 30 dwellings were also damaged. Other victims included a man identified only as George, who was killed by a falling tree, while another person whose name was not disclosed was reportedly killed by lightening.In Behla, Jorquelleh Administrative District #2 in Bong County, a woman whose identity was not established was also killed.Survivors have appealed to the government and humanitarian organizations to help them with zinc, clothing and other essential materials. They are at present housed by relatives.When contacted, the coordinator of the disaster management and also Bong County Inspector, William Kollie, told the Daily Observer that his office has officially informed authorities at the Ministry of Internal Affairs about the disaster.
