When customers arrive at a DMV field office, technicians can quickly access the completed form.“This new electronic form is a significant game changer in our continued commitment to streamline processes at field offices statewide,” said DMV Director Jean Shiomoto. “Our goal is to use the electronic application to shorten the amount of time customers spend at our field offices. Scheduling an appointment can also reduce your wait time.”When customers fill out the electronic application, they will first need to create an account and then complete the DMV electronic driver license and ID card application. Customers will need an active phone number and email address to verify their identity through a secure two-factor authentication process.The electronic application also allows customers to choose to be an organ donor and begin the process to register to vote. Voter registration will not be completed until an applicant visits a field office and submits the application with the DMV technician.Customers can use the TouchScreen Terminals at field offices to complete the electronic driver license and ID card application.More information on the new electronic application is available at eDLapp.dmv.ca.gov. Skies are mostly cloudy, but it should stay dry.Early Saturday morning, temperatures are in the 30s. We’ll warm to temperatures in the mid 40s by afternoon. Showers start late tonight after 10 p.m. Overnight, temperatures fall to a low around 34. This means precipitation could turn from rain showers to a wintry mix, and later it could be primarily snowflakes. How quickly temperatures fall and when we see the rain turn into snow will determine if snow accumulates. There could be up to half an inch of snow, especially on grassy areas. Accumulation and icing on roadways shouldn’t be much of an issue because of our recent warm temperatures. Sunday afternoon precipitation continues to fall but turns back to rain as temperatures warm to the low 40s. This should help with melting any of the morning’s snow/ice. Rain wraps up by Sunday evening.Monday is a dry start to the work week. More rain is expected Tuesday and Wednesday, but the forecast improves for Thanksgiving. It should be a mostly sunny Turkey Day with temperatures around 50 degrees.Your ABC 57 First Warning Neighborhood Weather Center Forecast:Saturday: Mostly cloudy. High 46.Saturday night: Rain showers early, turning to rain/snow mix late. Low 34.Sunday: Rain/snow showers early, turning to rain showers by afternoon. High 42.Monday: Partly cloudy. High 42. Phil Jackson learns to run an NBA team the hard way

first_img“Franchise player” Carmelo Anthony gets $22.9 million to play when his sore knee is OK, or when he feels like it. That’s once in 2015 … in London where he had an appearance with Prince Harry.Melo and the team agree on shutting him down for the season ‑ although he’s expected to gut it out until starting the Feb. 15 All-Star Game in Madison Square Garden.ESPN, which carried three games of the expected renaissance, cancelled four of its five remaining Knicks games.“Thank God!” announced TNT’s Charles Barkley. “I’m not coming to work anymore if we show the Knicks or the Lakers for the rest of the season.”If Knicks fans now wear paper bags on their heads, arch-loyalists remain, painful as that is for Spike Lee, the arch-est of them who actually made a preseason documentary on Jackson’s triangle offense. Well, this would be hard for Phil if anything was.Among Jackson’s greatest gifts as a coach was his ability to cocoon his players, no matter the level of hysteria around them. When the sky seemed about to fall, he’d be up there, refusing to take questions seriously in his perpetually bemused way, like Mad Magazine’s Alfred E. Neuman who uttered the immortal words, “What, me worry?”Of course, his Lakers and Bulls were elite teams. Now he has bupkus … not that he can’t deal with it.After two months of denial, tweeting jibes at contemptuous critics like Barkley (“Do I have to mute this game?”), Jackson did what no one does, standing up and acknowledging that this is his fault.“This is a mea culpa, I take responsibility for it,” Jackson said.“In anticipating that we were going to better, that we were giving hope to our fans that maybe there’s a possible playoff opportunity here, you know, that goes on me. …“Now I have to do the job that I was brought here to do.”Voila! All the expectations were gone.Teams often stay in denial for years, not months ‑ like the one run by Phil’s significant other, Jeanie Buss.No Laker has acknowledged this season’s disappointment, much less noted that it has to be this way with all but four players on one-year deals to save cap space. If fate teed this up for Jackson by making the Knicks a laughingstock instead of merely bad, he’s not slow on the uptake.Phil’s new direction can be described in one word:Splash!J.R. Smith and Iman Shumpert were donated to Cleveland and starting center Samuel Dalembert waived, increasing their cap space to $33 million, enough for a max player and an $11 million salary. With Anthony shut down, the Knicks should be among the worst teams with the best lottery odds in an ever-more-promising draft.Once upon a time, in the fall of 2012, Lakers fans dreamed of Jackson as their savior, either as coach ‑ although he would have worked only that season ‑ or in the front office after that.Jackson actually had no front-office experience and it showed. With a pronounced comfort level with people he worked with, his Knick coaching choices came down to Steve Kerr and Derek Fisher, neither of whom had done it before.Tyson Chandler, a team leader and the lone defensive presence, was traded because he didn’t fit the triangle, where post players must be able to pass.Nevertheless, Phil’s a basketball guy with a learning curve. That’s a blessing for a team run by Steve Mills, whose background was in business ops before owner James Dolan, whose background is inheriting the team, made him GM so they could run the team into the ground together. In real life, there are sharp guys but no saviors. Phil’s mistake was not realizing that neither he nor anyone else could turn the Knicks around.Nor could Jerry Buss and Jerry West have saved the Lakers while losing Chris Paul and Kobe Bryant.Happily for the Lakers, fate may tee one up for them if Bryant’s age, or good sense, obliges them to shut him down so they fall low enough to get a top-five pick that they can keep. No, it won’t be pretty. In the Lakers’ and Knicks’ straits, you can’t expect art, just a plan.Mark Heisler has written an NBA column since 1991 and was honored with the Naismith Hall of Fame’s Curt Gowdy Award in 2006. His column is published Sundays in Los Angeles News Group print editions. So much for Phil Jackson as savior. It’s a long way from the beach in Playa del Rey, where Jackson basked for three years while the Lakers passed him over, to New York, where he’s learning to run a team the hard way.His Knicks, whom he expected to make the playoffs at worst, got the “at worst” part, anyway. With last week’s 16-point loss to Milwaukee in London ‑ yes, they now officially stink on two continents ‑ they have dropped an incredible 26 of 27.center_img Newsroom GuidelinesNews TipsContact UsReport an Errorlast_img read more
