Worker killed on Milton job site

(Updated) A 46 year old man is dead killed after being struck by a dump truck at a construction site in Milton.Accident reconstruction investigators were at the scene of the tragedy at a Milton construction site for several hours while separate investigators were examining the dump truck involved in the accident.“We have our commercial motor vehicle unit that has been called out and is on scene now and they will be looking at the truck…in order to determine if there are any deficiencies or anything,” said Chantal Corner of Halton Regional Police.The construction worker was killed when he was hit by the truck at about 7:30 this morning as it was backing out of the construction site.Police say the victim was a 46-year-old man who’d been working for a Burlington construction company since 2010. As a flag man, he was directing traffic at the site beside Derry Rd building a tunnel under a rail line.The dump truck had picked up a load of dirt and was leaving the construction site when the accident happened. Another trucker was standing by to deliver steel.A truck driver spoke to the man shortly before the accident then saw the aftermath.“I looked over and seen a body underneath the truck,” said the driver.The victim was declared dead on the scene.And police were trying to determine exactly how the accident happened.At the same time, Halton police were searching for a gunman not far away in a separate incident.“There has been no arrest. No charges laid at this time,” said Corner.It followed a shooting at about 3:30 in the morning.A 29-year-old man was hit in the shoulder and taken to Hamilton General Hospital in stable condition.He was shot twice as bullets went flying in this quiet residential area. read more
